Course Description

This care management and caregiving for the elderly Course is designed to equip participants with basic knowledge and fundamental principles in managing and to provide home-based and personalised care to ambulating, bed-bound and wheelchair-bound elderly in their home.  This course will benefit the family members of the elderly in taking care of their seniors at home, as well as supervising and guiding the migrant domestic workers in their home setting.  The course also aims to enable caregivers to take care of their own emotional and psychological needs, as well as that of the elderly.

What You Will Learn?

By the end of the course, participants will acquire basic and specific health literacy on caregiving and care management, as well as support for ambulating, bed-bound, and wheelchair-bound elderly individuals. This comprehensive course also addresses common physical and psychological changes in the elderly, allowing caregivers to better manage them. Dementia, a common condition among the elderly, will be covered along with its management. Fundamental skills such as monitoring and interpreting basic vital signs for the elderly, providing immediate first aid and escalation in emergency situations, and performing steps to transfer, position, and mobilize ambulating, bed-bound, and wheelchair-bound elderly individuals are all part of the training. Finally, the course will provide important information on social and financial support services needed by caregivers and inspire them to plan and conduct activities and exercises for the elderly individuals.

Terms and Conditions:

  1. $400 is provided to each care recipient for the first year with onset of caregiving training needs from 1 Apr 2024. Eligible care recipient will continue to receive $200 in the subsequent financial year (Apr to Mar of the following year). Caregivers (family members and Migrant Domestic Workers) can then utilise this grant for training to better look after their loved ones.
  2. Care recipient must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  3. Care recipient must meet the following requirements:-
    a. 65 years of age and above OR
    b. Have a disability.
    c. As certified by a Singapore Registered Doctor OR
    i. Doctor’s report/memo
    ii. Functional Assessment Report
    iii. IDAPE/Eldershield approval letter
    iv. MSF’s Client Assessment Form
    d. Is currently receiving services from a Social Service Agency (SSA)
  4. Caregiver must have 100% attendance at an approved course under CTG.
  5. Course fees will not be refunded at any point once the class has commenced.

Who should attend this course?

This course is suitable for anyone who needs to perform caregiving for an elderly or someone who is managing a caregiver.

Does the participant need to have caregiving experience to take the course?

No prior caregiving experience is required. In fact, 90% of our participants are beginners with no caregiving work experience.

What benefits will the participant gain after the course?

The participant will learn practical skills to provide proper care and be confident in performing assisted daily living activities for the elderly. Our course enables the participant to develop a good foundation of both theory and practical application.

How will my care recipient benefit?

The care recipient will benefit from better care and be able to carry out his or her activities of daily living safely at home. Family members of care recipient will feel assured and have a peace of mind that he or she is being competently looked after.  

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Are there any government subsidies for the courses?

Yes, Singaporean / Permanent Resident (PR) caregivers attending an eligible training course by Crawfurd Silver Care can utilize AIC’s Caregiving Training Grant (CTG) and SkillsFuture Credits (SFC) for co-payment. Employers of Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) can also send their MDWs to attend the course to benefit from the CTG subsidies.

How do I check if I have sufficient Caregiving Training Grant (CTG) balance?

From 1 Apr 2024, eligible beneficiaries will start off with a $400 grant. Each year, there will be a top up to care recipients’ Caregivers Training Grant by $200, and unused monies can be carried forward, with the Caregivers Training Grant monies for each care recipients capped at $400.
